    Default Pro gaming/e-sports

Getting paid to play video games. What do you think about it? Try to write more than "it sux"(lol in before "it sux" or any variation ;D)
(didnt post in the computer/gaming section cause I would more non video game addicts to see it )

Personally I think pro gaming is great. I honestly don't care if they get paid or not or whatever. I just love watching the best of the best battle each other out in my favorite video games. And I would like to watch it regularly every week and I do.

Well only 1 video game that the best of the best play vs each other weekly I can watch atm. The greatest video game ever made. The 11 year old game Starcraft. I think it's a true e-sports game. This game is so good it's good enough to be broadcasted 24/7 on 2 channels on Korean TV. Sadly the only country in the world that has it's own year round leagues and pro teams sponsored by major companies. Only country to embrace video gaming rather ignoring it like the western world has. Playing video games?!? Go out and get into a real sport like punching each other in the face with huge gloves on!
That mentality really belongs in the 1200s not in 2009.

The best players in Starcraft only wins about 60-70% of the time even though they practice all day for every match they are gonna play. The players who manage to stay at the top rarely does so for long. You won't see 1 guy dominating 7 years in a row. That just doesn't happen it's too hard.
The game evolves every year as people still figure new stuff out and new maps comes out. You can watch a 10 year old match, while the units and all that are the same. The strategy is completely different. Recently some player revolutionised 1 match up with a whole new strategy. 10-11 years after the game came out.
It's not like Command and Conquer 3 or some joke of a game you figure out after 15 mins of gameplay. It's on a completely different level.

You can check out a Korean league with english commentary done by an American here: http://www.gomtv.net/classics3/vod/

I don't see how professional video gaming is so ridiculous. I mean the highest paid athlete in the USA(and probably world?) is a guy that hits a small ball with a crooked stick then walks after it with the end goal to get the ball into a small hole. Talk about ridiculous

its pretty ok, but a huge gamble. i mean should you stop your life for training?

making money from games is easyer (as apposed to making a carrer out of it like you discussed?)

i joined, i think gamersaloon.com? kinda like gambling on games, you play cod4, then you get money if you win.

every week a played my heart out and averaged 4 (prob $8 back then) a week. just wasnt worth it. with more time i could have gotten maybe 15.

also local LAN places have compititions, which i'm totally into but i have no time what so ever to train and whatnot.

Getting paid for gaming is probably the laziest job ever. I'd do it. But I get tired of games so quickly so I would fail

I can tell you by that playing the same game everyday for extremely long amounts of time is atleast for 99% of people more work than it would be fun.

If Skate 2 was ever a MLG game I would deffinatley go for that but it won't ever be so I'm not going to worry myself over it.

back on madden 05-07 I played the tourny circuit and made over 4 grand profit. I didnt even win any big name tournies(mega bowl, madden challenge, nats, kotc, bbc), I just made bank off sidegames before/after the event. I was usually up until 2am every night "labbing" with the same 3 people online, I averaged about 5 hours a day (9p-2am). Those years were probly the best years of my life so far, met a ton of new people and traveled all over the place. the money I made completely paid for my car and an insurance down payment... pro gaming is def the way to go if you have a lot of free time.

trust me man, 4 grand is nothing compared to what some people made, and are still making. tournament winners usually walked away with 3g's. sidegames were usually 150-600 each. if you won a mega or nationals, $10,000. madden challenge used to be 5g a city plus a trip to hawaii and if you win it all you got $50,000. not to mention vgames, temple, gamersaloon, and other online betting sites. I made $400 just from winning 2 online money leagues on vgsports and leaguedaddy. madd money can be made in video games if you put the time in

    it sux, lol

kinda pointless, really...i mean, a professional gamer? what exactly do they inspire? pro athletes inspire kids to get out and play sports, pro skaters inspire kids to go skate...what, a pro gamer inspires kids to sit on their lardy asses and play videogames all day? yeah, that's just what we need...more smartass fat kids.

    your grammer sux!!!

its not pointless, you have more chance earning money than becoming a footaller or a skater.

i'm assuming from your closing statement, that all you do is play videogames? =]

if i had the chance to become a pro gamer would i do it? oh yea.

do i care enough to strive for that dream? not so much.

its just a game to me. all in good fun, i don't like the idea of always being pressured to play good.

It isn't about inspiring. Do you think people are pro because they are supposed to inspire? Nope. They are pro because they are entertainment. Sports are nothing but entertainment.

PS. Gaming doesn't make you fat.

You won't get fat if you eat healthy.
