Default How much to tighten wheels? Where do you get washers?

I just took my wheels and bearings off just to 'splore around but I'm not sure how much you tighten the nut on the wheels?

Where do you get those washers?

tighten them until they dont rattle on the axle but keep them loose enough so tjhat they still spin freely.

you can get the washers at a skate shop or with some sets of bearings.

"those washers" are speedrings...they provide a little buffer between the nut and bearings, and between the truck and bearing...it gives space so the nut and/or truck aren't rubbing on the bearing.

any decent skateshop should have a bucket full of 'em, cuz kids don't think they're necessary.

how much to tighten the wheels? i just tighten my nuts until the wheel won't spin, then i back it off until it does spin...that keeps everything nice, snug, and supported. if there's a spacer in between the bearings, you can just crank down the nuts, but if there's not, you gotta be a little more careful.

    zomg! speed rings dammit!

    ha

and to the guy who said he tightens them then loosens them...

that is a sure way to crush the bearing shield, i let mines rattle a fair bit, probably just smaller than the width of a uk 5 pence coin.

It wouldn’t crush it unless he keep tightening it after it was unable to spin if he tightens it until it cant spin and then loosens it wouldn’t crack the shields.

i would have thought the plastic sheilds would be pressed right up against the nut and bearings, leaving tiny circle indentations on the shields?

as i said, tighten them so they don't move, then loosed 'em a notch or two so they spin freely

Just watch out when you're tightening that you don't crush the retaining wall of the bearing, which can happen if they're seated improperly in the wheel or you have a shorter axle base. The slightest dent in the retaining wall will utterly destroy your bearings.

Tighten them until they're snug. Most skateshops have parts try there and make sure you have bearing spacers too If you understand the basis of physics
    you will see why

They come with a new set of trucks. 2 per wheel. 8 total on your board.

Put one on, then put on the wheel, then put on the other one, then tighten the bolt.

Tighten the bolt until there's about 1mm of give/play between the wheel and the bolt. spin it with your hand to make sure it spins fast and freely. if it doesn't, loosen her up a bit and see if you can't solve the problem.
If there's a lot of give/play and room to move the wheel around on the axle, and youre STILL having spinning issues, the problem probably lies in your bearings.

However, just go down to your skateshop and ask. Odds are pretty good that they'll give you enough to put on your board, and they always have them sitting around from kids who think they're 'too cool' to f*ck with the things that keep they're wheels/bearings from getting raped.

    you know what I mean?

and to that wack who accused him of making too many threads, you're flooding the server with your useless bullshat posts too buddy. So what's the use. These threads should be done and over within 5 replys, question answered, closed. There's way too many people trying to jack their post count to feel cool that aren't really contributing to anything useful.

I don't think there's any existing problem.. I just don't remember how tight they were when I took them off.

I went to the skateshop I bought it from and their wheels were very snug.. no play at all. Maybe that's why mine was somewhat slow..

yea, leave a little room so the wheels are secure, don't move around much at all, but can still freely spin.
