Default Awesome and Easy to Make Bench

    updated original post with pics
    updated with plans
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz0e-KAGvSY

im making the black bench in that video tomorrow. im probably going to use 2x4's instead of 4x4's for the top to save weight.

i may paint it black as well.

i'll be updating this with maybe pictures or a video and MAYBE plans. it depends on how much response i get.

and as far as what do do to make this goes. you'll need

    PARTS LIST
    five 8 foot long 2x4s
    a drill
    screws (2 1/2 inch long)
a power saw of some kind.
    tape measure
5 feet of steel angle iron
    hack saw

    CUT LIST

cut four five foot long pieces of 2x4 to be the top of the bench

cut four 8 1/2 inch long pieces to be the legs

cut four 11 1/4 inch pieces to be the horizontal pieces of the legs

cut one 14 inch piece to go across the bottom of the bench

cut your angle iron to be 5 feet long

    ASSEMBLY

the easiest way to do this is to build the legs first and then add each piece of the top deck on one at a time.

assemble the legs as shown here in this picture. the longer pieces go in between the shorter pieces. make sure everything is level when you're doing this, crooked legs=crooked bench.

once you have 2 leg pieces built screw the first piece of the top deck onto them, space the legs about 6-8 inches from the ends of the bench. screw each sequential piece of the top deck about a 1/3 of an inch apart from the other piece use a dvd or a cd case as a spacer to make sure its the same each time.

once you have that done flip it over and screw the 15 inch long piece across the bottom of the bench.

now for the angle iron, i only added one piece so if you plan on adding two just do this part twice, duh.

you can either use some kind of liquid adhesive or you can drill and counter-sink some holes into the metal and screw it into the bench.

i've never tried using an adhesive but im sure you can read and took 3rd grade art class you can figure out how to glue two things together.

to attach it using screws first find a drill bit that's about the same size as the part of the screw with the spirals on it. use that to drill 3 holes in the angle iron, one in the middle and one on either end. now find a drill bit that's the same size as the head of the screw and carefully drill into the hole you already drilled until there is a large enough hole for the head to sit in without poking up, if you drill to deep then you'll have to redo this whole step again so be careful.

now that you have the holes drilled in the metal use some screws and attach it to the bench, use some 1 1/2 inch long screws or the screws will go through the 2x4s and possibly stab you when you move the bench.

you're basically done, i do suggest you paint it with a few layers of exterior paint to keep it slick because wood has a hard time sliding and it'll last longer in the rain and sun.

you shouldnt really need to show plans, maybe the roughest MSpaint, all i really want to see from other peoples projects is how they strengthened the whole thing. quick look at the inside should be enough.

will look out for the finished bump

I would have suggested building it out of 4x4's if you hadn't already started. I always think it's better to overbuild a ramp than build it cheaper and more "airy".

i ended up using 2's, it seems plenty strong and i'll be moving it a lot so it worked out. if i make another for bikes it'll be with 4's though.

i just made some ms paint plans but those are probably just temporary. i'll make a video or picture plans soon as well.

also im going to add angle iron to it. i think the one in the video is made of plastic with a wood base. wood doesn't grind.

nobody grinds on wood if it can be helped, i've seen a few parts in vid's (360 flip to nose grind WTF :s).

    so the box is done?

I love it! It looks like it's built really well. I've been wanting to build a bench for a while. Never got around to it. I guess I'll get at it now. That really is awesome Trebor. The green just makes it.

I ask because I want to take it from my home and place it in my village square...
It is about 200m I think the distance from my house so i don't think that I am gona die

well i can carry it about 100m no problem but i am a grown man and i bmx a lot too. its not particularly heavy but carrying it a long distance might get tiresome.

and if you painted it really well you might be able to just grind the wood but i wouldn't suggest it.
