Thought you guys would be interested in this. A friend on another forum (Down South Skates) reported a Jay Adams sighting today:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys, it's been a while since I last was on here. Work, family, etc., keeping me occupied. Anyways, having a great visit with SDO here and took him to the North Shore today to check the waves, big swell moving through.

So we were in the parking lot at Haleiwa marketplace to go into the North Shore Surf and Cultural Museum and it was closed..., closed on Tuesday's... So we look to the right and there's Jay Adams unloading produce out of his convertible and taking it into Cholo's.

We walked over and had a short conversation; he is living here and enjoying skating and surfing daily. A very nice and reserved Jay Adams is how he came across. Great to meet him and we wished him well. Sure to see him again out here, he looked great and happy overall.

Imagine the odds... SDO and I were at the Hickam skate park a few days back and were told by the owners' Son Jay was back out here, now we know it's true.

Wish you were here!

by the way.....here's an old pic of Jay I found just the other day:

Alex.....don't fret over it. You got the real thing. The film you got will live forever....the other one is great, but it will probably be forgotten in time.

The spirit of skateboarding is......UNBREAKABLE!!!

A few people are the perfect personification of skateboarding.

Chris Gentry is one of them. RESPECT.

Adamstown skateboarder has no fear of flying
An Adamstown youth masters skateboard tricks despite his disability and without special equipment. He’s a member of a national organization whose founder wants to build a $100,000 skate park in Adamstown.
By Nathan Carrick
Reading Eagle correspondent

Adamstown, PA -
Chris Gentry aims his skateboard carefully and glides down a ramp to pick up speed.
He hits the jump and launches himself eight feet into the air as the board twists and spins below him.
This could end badly.
There’s a thud as Gentry hits the ground — a perfect landing. To do the kickflip indie, which is tough for any skateboarder, you need big air — that is you have to get a lot of lift off a ramp.
It was Gentry’s fourth try before he got it right. And that’s pretty good, considering that Gentry has only one leg.
The 15-year-old Adamstown youth was born without a right femur, a condition known as proximal femoral focal deficiency. Doctors were forced to amputate the right leg between the knee and hip.
Unlike disabled skiers or runners, who can have custom-made equipment, Gentry has adapted to skate-boarding without such aids. He doesn’t wear a prosthesis because he says it holds him back.
To ride a skateboard, Gentry starts at the top of a ramp and uses gravity to pick up speed. He balances on his left leg, then in one smooth movement dives forward and tucks the board under his stump.
He left leg folds onto the board, but the front of his shoe often drags on the ground.
"I go through a shoe in about a month," Gentry said. "It gets expensive."
Gentry’s disability didn’t stop him from giving skate-boarding a shot when he was 8.
"I saw my brother skating and it looked like fun, so I just kind of started, too," said Gentry, who will be a sophomore at Cocalico High School in the fall.
He needed patience.
"At first I just rolled around a lot," he said. "After I got good enough, about four years ago, I guess, I started to try to do tricks."
Now he can do flips, nose slides and, ironically, a difficult move called a boneless. He just rolls in, hits the ramp and goes flying.
"The worst part is when stones and stuff get caught under my wheels," he said. "My board stops and I pretty much go flying every time."
During a recent session at a skate park in Denver, Lancaster County, Gentry zipped past 10-year-old Reese Buckholz, who watched in awe.
"I couldn’t do those moves," said Buckholz of Wernersville.
"Yeah, he’s really good," Buckholz brother, Jack, 9, said of Gentry. "I want to be that good — and I have two legs."
Gentry knows that skate-boarding is dangerous and that because of his circumstance, the injury risk is greater than it is for most.
"I’ve broken my thumb about six times," the youth said.
Last year, it looked as if Gentry and other Adamstown-area skateboarders were going to have to find somewhere else to ride. Residents had been complaining to borough officials that skateboarders were becoming a nuisance and a safety hazard.
Sometimes the skaters even rode down the center of Route 272, which runs through Adamstown.
Borough council president Dean Johnson has said borough leaders were prepared to ban skate-boarding.
That’s until Garry Moore stepped in.
Moore of Reading has proposed building a skate park to provide a safe haven for skateboarders, inline skaters and scooter riders.
Moore, whose left leg was amputated below the knee following a 1997 work accident, is one of three co-founders of Adaptive Action Sports, a national nonprofit organization based in Colorado.
The group assists athletes with permanent physical disabilities with pursuing their sports passions.
Gentry is a member of the Adaptive Action Sports’ Amped Riders skate team, which Moore also leads.
Moore proposed building an Adamstown skate park, where his AAS team and other skaters could safely practice their sport.
Council formed a skateboard committee, led by Councilwoman Alecia Kloiber, to explore the idea.
In cooperation with Moore, AAS and some area companies, a plan was drawn for the Adamstown Action Park.
If approved by council, the 10,000-square-foot facility would be constructed off Route 272 near the Adamstown Community Park and Pool, Kloiber said.
Smooth cement surfaces would allow riders such as Gentry to skate worry free.
"This is really going to be a top-notch facility," Moore said. "We expect people not just from Adamstown but from all over Pennsylvania and other states to come here."
The projected cost is $100,000, and AAS has said it will raise all the money through grants and fundraising. The group has said the borough won’t have to pay for any of it.
As for Gentry, he doesn’t know how far his special talent will take him.
He’d like to become a professional rider if the opportunity comes along. For now, skate-boarding is a passion and a true test of motivation.
"It felt good," he said of giving the sport a try. "It just felt good. That’s why I did it."

Biography
I am Chris Gentry pro skateboarder. I am currently sponsored by Element Skateboards, Adaptive Action Sports, Amped Riders, Pierced Clothing, and bGoat.com I was born with PFFD which is a smart-ass term that basically means i was born without a femur. Despite the fact that i am missing a leg, i will go shread anything in my way. I like to think of myself as an innovative skateboarder in more ways than one. My favorite skateboarder and best friend would have to be Mike Vallely and Jon Comer for they both skate Ele with me and Jon is the first pro

"Jay Adams, Bobby Piercy and me (Paul Hoffman) watching "Baby" Paul Cullen shred Montebello skatepark in 1978. If it looks like we are in awe of Paul; we are. "Baby" "

"Yes. It is me, Paul Hoffman (far right). I wrote this about Baby Paul (and posted on my website) around 3 years ago. Baby Paul rode a lot like Arthur Lake who had a pool on the beach in Santa Monica. Baby Paul would shred that pool too, better than any of us and he was 3 years younger than most z-boys at the time...thus, the "baby" Paul. He also had that nickname so he would not be confused with Paul Constantineau who was a major player on the Z-Team. At least I think that is how he got the nickname. Other oponions appreciated. Paul H. (Thanks M. David Z). RIP Baby Paul. St. Peter will greet you with a new surfboard and a Dogtown skate at the pearly gates."

"This shot typifies what pool skating was all about at the time. Total commitment to pushing the limits, and the scabby knees that resulted from pushing it too far. Again, RIP, BP

PS. This is the original Dogbowl and that is Alva in the background.
Stan Sharp Photo......R.I.P. Stan...."
