The
Ollie 180
(written by ‘misled user’)
First Off
First, a quick definition of backside and frontside for you all:
Backside - You turn your body towards the toeside edge of the
board. So if you’re regular, you’ll turn right, and if you’re goofy,
turn left.
Frontside - You turn your body towards the heelside edge of
your board. So if you’re regular, you’ll turn left, and if you’re
goofy, turn right.
How To Ollie
1. Foot Position - Start in the Ollie Position
2. This is very important. Wind up for your 180 by
rotating your shoulders in the direction opposite of the way you want
to go (so if you’re regular and trying a Frontside 180, rotate your
shoulders and upper body right, and for a Backside 180, rotate left.
Reverse that if you are goofy).
3. Throw your arms out in the direction that you
want to 180, and Ollie while turning your body 180 degrees. The spin
should be clean, and should come mostly from your shoulders and upper
body (hence the wind up).
Tips
-It seems to help if you throw your arms out and begin rotating
your arms right before you Ollie.
- If you’re trying to do a Frontside 180, many people find it easier
if they set their front foot up so that it is hanging off of the toeside
edge slightly. Play with it.
- If you’re still having trouble, check out these two videos, they
are very helpful!
